Cave Time

Originally uploaded by mysticpenguin.

I talked to my research partner about needing a little time for reflection. She said that she would not mind a little "cave-time" herself. Next weekend we will be meeting with the group again. My imet portfolio is getting more and more complete. Thanks to Vickie for introducing me to "Fireworks." Thanks to lynda.com for specific instructions on how to set up a graphic to produce a pop-up window. I am very pleased with the development of the website. I expect to get the product pages finished this weekend as well as get a good start on the Process page that links to the Resume and personal reflection. I am uncertain about the personal reflection part, but I know I can finish off the Resume part. I want to plan a structure for the process page as well. As the portfolio evolves, it is becoming more and more a visual site (go figure). I am lucky to be dual platform. After I make some changes on my Mac, I get to go see how the pages look on my PC so that I can make changes and so on. I am feeling that the deadlines are being hit and that the target will be reached. December 16th or BUST!

O.K. folks, here is the update... my co-teacher at Cardozo is screening students for the project and expects to have a candidate for me to look at by the end of the week. Yipee! That's the view from here :-)

Making Progress

Trigger

The first week of school has come and gone and there has been a lot of productivity on the action research project. There is an order to install Inspiration on all of the computer lab units. Sixteen teacher at Cardozo now have teacherweb sites (even though the district tech guy thinks it is "stupid.") The coolest thing, AR project-wise, is that I have recruited a teacher to help choose a student to work with. The principal has also agreed to take me to see some people that he knows from a previous assignment that have actually done a similar project. All-in-all, not a bad first week. Sure beats the battle zone environment I was in last year. Color me pleased. *** Clarificataion: I was too curt in my quote from the district technology person. His actual quote is this: "The money spent on Teacherweb was a stupid waste of money BECAUSE we have the same thing available to them now with the RUSD website content manager software. It is a redundant and unnecessary expense. "

The Home Stretch

Calling Card

Middle school is starting. Imet is entering the final semester and the stuff is about ready to hit the fan! I think the key is to keep a cool head. Oh, and I am launching a possible career as a professional development trainer on October first. Wish me luck! I will keep my eye on the prize (my master's degree) and pour on the steam! Above all... don't panic

QUANTUM LEAP

jumping cat

I have been experiencing several leaps forward in my personal abilities and understandings since beginning the iMet master's program. As I awaken from my academic slumber, my feet touch down on the run!
This week has been yet another leap. The training that I participated in gives me the means and opportunity to be a professional development trainer through CTAP (California Technology Assistance Program). By the time this school year begins, I will have all the pieces in place to offer professional quality workshops. I already have a personal (CTAP branded) home page, a workshop description page (work in progress) and an awesome partner to work with.

The doors are opening and the future looks great. Color me excited!

Resting Phase

ZZZZZZ. I have been in a resting phase for most of June. My usual productivity has ground to a screeching halt and I am re-cooperating from the hectic pace of this last year. Next week I head back into full-tilt mode, but for now, I will continue to rest peacefully :-)
The photo above has been polardoid-o-nized. Just a fun, cool thing to try. An interesting aside is that this picture is not hosted by me. The polaroid-o-nizer is hosting it (he he). Wait a minute... the polaroid-o-nizer uses the browser. When you point the browser towards a photo, then polaroid--o-nize it, you get the polaroid effect for the photo (ie, the frame, tilt and caption) with a new URL in a new browser window. Therefore the site the picture is hosted on originally still hosts it. That means the polaroid-o-nizer is simply a tool. Interesting.

Back at the Middle School... at LAST

I received a call yesterday that the High School is putting an ad in the paper for an Earth Science teacher (that used to be my burden) and I will be going to the Middle School to teach computers (that is my passion). When I looked in the mirror, I SWEAR that I look younger already. I will be able to pursue the educational avenues that I consider to be important and ground-breaking with the full support and approval of my principal. I can have a relaxed summer without going job hunting. This is happy news. Check out the big corgi grin!
